About 24 hours before we leave for the airport!!! Are we freaking out!?!? Sorta, but at the same time, we really can't believe this is finally happening!
This trip, which has morphed from 1 - 2 weeks to now a whopping 4 weeks, had humble beginnings back in the spring of 2019. I floated the idea of going on a trip, out of the country, for my 50th birthday and the brainstorming began. The UK was not the only possibility. Canada was on the list. Iceland was mentioned. In the end, however, the UK won out; partially because we wanted to visit Dunans Castle in Scotland to visit our two square "foots" of pasture I had gifted Heather a few Christmases prior. The plan was a trip that barely approached two weeks, but that would include some time in London as well as a train trip up to Scotland and then back. We anxiously made our way through the school year towards the summer of 2020. Then, you know, the world came to a stand still. We cancelled the trip. Undeterred, I almost immediately started to reimagine the trip for the summer of 2021, rationalizing that we should add an additional week to the itinerary. More research was done, bookings were made and we anxiously made our way through another school year towards the summer of 2021. Then, you know, things were better, but not completely. We reluctantly cancelled our trip...again. Trying to find the silver lining in it all, I immediately started to research and plan once again for the summer of 2022. And, of course, we added one more week to the itinerary. Why not!?!? Bringing us to today! Three years in the making...this is one heck of a trip we're taking. We're excited to see what we have planned to see, but we're even more excited about the daily adventures that lie ahead. Driving on the opposite side of the road, shopping at the local supermarkets and plopping down in a pub for Sunday roast. We're going to soak in every moment and share as much as we can with you. Cheers! Rob
